Review of Detroit Metal City (2008) by Chris P — 29 Mar 2009
The episodic nature of Detroit Metal City is true to the source material, but it works better in short animation form. The real draw of the film is Death Note's Kenichi Matsuyama - who's become quite the chameleon - balls-out performance as the sugary sweet Soichi who becomes the bat-out-of-hell Krauser.
The humor is slightly less vulgar than the anime, but the soundtrack is surprisingly good (I don't even like metal!), and the epic showdown between Krauser and Jack Il Dark (Gene Simmons!) kicks ass.
