Review of Detroit Metal City (2008) by Sterling T — 29 Mar 2009
Great concept.. that went a bit too cartoonish. Kenichi was way over the top; probably the director's fault. The concept is so zany that playing it a bit more realistic would have enhanced to humor + charm of the film.
The motion graphics in the early scenes were great + should have continued throughout the film. This could have helped justify the ham-fisted acting. I've noticed animated or motion graphic sequences are being incorporated into many Asian comedies, I hope this trend continues + is utilized more completely.
The appearance of Gene Simmons gives the movie a touch of authenticity, but why have a cameo, then cover the stars face?
I wanted to like this film, but it's not something I could watch again.
