Review of Detroit Metal City (2008) by -Apocalypse- - — 07 Apr 2009
â??No music, no dreamâ??. This is the believe of a shy and gentle guy, who loves music so much that he left his hometown to pursue his education and his dream of becoming a pop musician. He believes that songs should be cheery, positive and encourage one to be happy and hopeful. However, upon his graduation, he realized that the only singing gig that he is ever given a chance is to be a part of a heavy/ death metal group, Detroit Metal City (DMC). The group is managed a lady boss, who loves the death metal scene and has her own dream to make DMC into a cult band across Japan and later to defeat the world greatest death metal performer, Jack II Dark (from the US). As much as he dislikes DMC, he has a natural talent in playing the guitar even with his teeth (much to the approval of his DMC fans). When he is not, Krauser, the lead guitarist for DMC (cursing while singing), he is the gentle & naive, Soichi Negeshi, who plays his guitar with silly love songs at a street corner.
One day, he bumped into his long-time university friend, a girl, Yuri Aikawa, whom he had a crush before. Now Yuri starts to like him but has expressed before that she dislikes DMC and the songs that they sung (about killing, murdering and raping). So Soichi is torn between remaining in DMC as â??demonâ?? guitarist, which he is really good at or being a pop singer, whom no one appreciates it.
This is a funny movie. Even one does not achieve his own dreams, but his own act without him realizing it, has made other people achieved their dreams.
