Review of Detroit (2017) by Billy C — 23 Aug 2017
I'm upset that they didn't roll this film out slower, as opposed to giving it a wide release, which has made the film get lost. It's a great conversation-starter of a movie, as well as being tense as hell and angering. One film can't encapsulate the black suffering, but it can those (like me) who aren't the best informed reason to look into things like this more.
But don't think it's some didactic piece. Most of the movie takes place in a motel, and it is edge-of-your-seat tense. So there's plenty of entertainment, but also a lot of issues that sometimes only movies can bring up to get people to pay attention.
