Review of Detention (2012) by Steve M — 23 Oct 2012
"Detention" is a weird hybrid of a John Hughes, slasher and sci-fi films with a ton of meta humor that might be too much. The story seems to be all over the place, but it sort of makes sense by the time the movie.
This movie tries way too hard to be cool that it never quite achieves that goal. The characters could have been developed a bit better. I could also see Joseph Kahn trying his best to make this movie a unique movie, which he does manage to somewhat achieve despite the incoherent plot.
It is possible that "Detention" might be worth a second viewing just to see if you got everything right the first time around.
