Review of Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame (2010) by Alan W — 05 Feb 2011
Da Vinci Code + Chinese Wushu films = this hybrid and visually spectacular film which is both enjoyable and entertaining if you let it washes over you. I mean, they even have an albino character - though they tweak it and play with audience's expectations here to good effect.
On one hand, what does work is you dont know who's on who's side and this fluidity adds suspense. But on the other hand, Im not sure if this flip-flopping would stand up to closer scrutiny - so best just watch and dont overthink it.
