Review of Detachment (2011) by Talha M — 23 Mar 2012
This is what Dead Poet's Society should have been like. Not kitsch, but authentic. Real. Adrien Brody's aching portrayal of a trapped man, a struggling educator, and a victim of childhood trauma could have been easily made into a tear jerker.
How Tony Kaye actually brings soul into an at-times-obvious-and-a-little-too-worded narrative is where we, the audience see him outshine as a film maker, bringing out nuanced performances by the ensemble, while telling the story of the meekly tethered education system of America.
