Review of Detachment (2011) by Angela M — 21 Oct 2012
An audacious scathing scorch the earth condemnation of the horrors of modern life. The pervasive marketing, the public school system, the bad parenting, vicious Kids, and drugged up stupor that we stumble about it in.
The movie swings wildly at all the above and more, and like any maelstrom of torrent some things connect more than others. It's all the academic self righteous anger of American history x by way of spike lee.
The angry 9/11 speech by Ed norton in 25th hours cooked up to 97 minutes. It tells a smattering of a story of a fallen idealist sub, who despite having a gift of connecting to his students, is detached from the world.
Weary of all the hurt and disappointments life has given, trying to save kids and failing wholesale. Tony Kaye pulls no punches with style or ideas, and we have a litany of things going on. Less is not more, less is less and more is more, and there is enough more to cover the less.
