Review of Destry Rides Again (1939) by Eric B — 21 Feb 2010
5 stars (Masterpiece): Brilliant, effective western satire about mild-mannered sheriff brought in to clean up a town--without using his guns. Truly funny the whole way through and it's a delight to see how this film subverts many Western cliches while maintaining a look and feel all its own.
George Marshall directs fluidly, and ends it all on a running joke in the classic Hollywood style. The catfight scene with Marlene Dietrich is hilarious.
