Review of Despicable Me 3 (2017) by James R — 03 Jul 2017
Not a bad movie, but not a great movie either. I think this series is finally starting to feel some franchise fatigue. This movie follows the events of Despicable Me 2 (2013). Gru (Steve Carell) and Lucy (Kristen Wigg) are happily married and working for the Anti-Villain League (AVL).
When they are fired from work after failing to capture the super villain Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) they both return home to their adoptive children Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Nev Scharrel).
The next day Gru receives a message from his long lost twin brother Dru (also Steve Carell). Gru and the family go to visit Dru and soon enough realize there's more to Dru's immense wealth than what it first seems.
The movie isn't bad like I said. It's very predictable though and I will say the pacing near the end gets a bit too slow. The minions are back in this one as well, but are featured as more of a side story.
I was hoping for more conflict in the film, but in all honesty there really isn't much. The animation is still top notch and there are some cool action sequences. Kids will love this one while I think older viewers will find this one better than Minions (2015), but still not as good as the first two films!
