Scattershot is the best way to describe this movie. There's far too much going on, none of it really leads to anything worthwhile, the sub-plots are more or less pointless, and the main plot itself becomes superfluous very fast.

Really, the only thing this movie has going for it is the animation; Illumination IS becoming an animated powerhouse. However, this movie is incredibly disposable, and a prime example of franchise overstaying it's welcome while doing everything it can to sustain revenue.

Let it die, Universal, it's over.
