Review of Despicable Me (2010) by Nanoko M — 19 Dec 2013
The American animated film, "Despicable Me", was produced in 2010. This was directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud. This film was the first 3D film which was produced from Universal Pictures. The main character is "Gru". He doesn't like children and he is a thief who thinks about the incredible plan that he steals the moon from the space with Minions. Minions are partners who were made from a banana and look like a kernel of corn. While he plans to steal the moon, he meets three orphan girls, Margo, Agnes and Edith, to succeed in this plan. He started to live with them. He and three girls went to an amusement park and he also read a painting book to them. His feelings about them had been changing through the life with them. Although he gave up achieving the incredible plan once because he is short of funds, he didn't give up achieving this plan with Minions and three orphan girls after all. At the end of this film, he has to decide to curry out this plan or go to a ballet recital of three orphan girls. So, he thought what it is important for him carefully. He decided to carry out this plan, but he went to a place where a ballet recital is held after he succeeded in this plan. Then, he noticed that three orphan girls were kidnapped by his rival. He asks his rival to release three orphan girls in exchange for transferring the moon which he got. They could make sure a bond of affection between Gru and three orphan girls through this.
This film is one of my favorite films because I can learn a lot of things from this and I like character's behavior, especially Minions'. Also, I can feel different kinds of feelings in this film. Therefore, I want to recommend this film to people of all ages.
You will be able to feel that you are in a very real world by 3D technology. Some people sometimes feel that this film doesn't use 3D technology. However, if it is used in all of scenes, you will be tired when you watch this film. I think this film was produced to be thought about carefully. The greatest scene for me was the scene that three girls and Gru ride a roller coaster in an amusement park. I think you can most feel that 3D technology is used from this scene because the speed of a roller coaster is expressed well. When you watch this scene, you will feel you ride a roller coaster at the same time. There are some other scenes which are thought deeply like this and 3D technology is used effectively in. In addition, this plot is very simple, so you may think how the story will develop after that. However, it is easy for people of all ages to understand the plot. Also, all of the characters, especially Minions, are expressive and their behaviors seem to be real. Their expression is beyond description. Minions speak only words like "OK", so you can't understand the language which Minions speak. On the other hand, their faces are very expressive and their voice with ingenious intonation expresses different kinds of feelings like sadness, happiness and excitement. You can notice that many kinds of feelings exist in this world and it is easier to feel your feelings than any other films. You feel the same feeling with characters. Because of these points, this film makes you feel different kinds of emotions like sadness and interest.
Children will be able to just enjoy watching this movie and watching this movie may be a step toward becoming a person with lively imagination and expression. On the other hand, adults can enjoy watching it and they also learn that it is important to support each other and express your feelings in your life. I don't know if children can understand, but both children and adults can learn that we face the facts, and we always have to decide something in our life. Even if you face the difficulties, all people face difficulties. Therefore, you can learn you shouldn't give up in this situation like Gru.
This film is watched by many people in Japan and America, so I want you to watch this film if you have time.
