I learnt a very valuable lesson today, never ever go to the cinemas to see a children's film during the school holidays...

There were a few things that should have made this movie outing a really bad and devastating experience: My seat position (right down the front, my neck was at a 45 degree angle the entire session). A cinema full little darling school aged children constantly bouncing up and down the stairs and aisles from beginning to end. The crying babies and bad smells they seem to expel and the lack of Magnum Ego Ice-creams that cinema no longer sell. Thankfully though, none of that mattered because the film itself was brilliant.

I absolutely love animation, be it Disney, Pixar or Manga varieties and no matter what if a film can make me give out great big belly laughs then it can only be classed as entertaining and worthwhile.

So Despicable Me 2 is a great story told really well with some fantastic voice acting and animation, very memorable lines and scenes, and an animated cast you will fall in love with. I have already been asked "do you need to see the 1st to get this one",.

Thank fully I can say no, not at all, this flows on its own, has its own story and very easy to pick up any missing pieces as it plays along, I'm just glad it is as seamless and fun as the first. Which if you haven't seen I suggest you put it on your "to watch list".

If it wasn't for the "Minions" this franchise would have nothing. They are witty, crazy, and the way they break out into a song or switch to a new costume is hysterical. The minions just keep everything running smoothly and never miss a beat. They are the biggest part of the film and would be sorely missed if they were skipped. In saying that though Gru voiced by Steve Carell has his own charisma that really works as well especially when it comes to his three loving and very adorable girls he has become guardian of voiced lovingly by Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier and Elsie Fisher. You can't help but fall in love. Also joining the crew is Russell Brand, Benjamin Bratt, Ken Jeong and Pierre Coffin who not only directed the movie but also voices the majority of the minions.

So the plot for this one is Gru the evil ex villain now turned father of the year is recruited by the good guys The Anti-Villain League to find the new super villain that has taken hold of a new super potion that turns the once lovable into new monstrous and evil. Chaos of course ensues as Gru and super-agent Lucy voiced by Kristin Wiig do their best to stop the evil plan whilst trying to balance family life and stop Margo from falling in love with the wrong boy before everything turns nasty. Very funny with adult one liners, a mad chicken, 3 adorable kids, a multitude of minions and a lot of childish humor makes for a fun and very lovable film for everyone from the young of age to the young at heart.

As a side note - I went with a 4yr old who absolutely loves nature and documentaries his own review for the film was it was too monsterey (monset-er-ey) remember 4 yr olds words not mine and he didn't enjoy it, so perhaps it's for the kids who enjoy the toons on a sat morning more than the kids who still love Dora or Peppa Pig.

Personally I loved it and found myself laughing from beginning to end.

4 out 5 BanShee Screams.

X.
