Review of Desperado (1995) by Matthias S — 11 Feb 2010
El Mariachi gets the Hollywood makeover for its sequel and it's not too bad. Buscemi is good as the kooky sidekick but is not made enough of. Getting a bit tired of the Rodriguez/Tarantino mutual appreciation society though, and I guess this was the start of it.
It's hard to tell how much is Rodriguez original or Tarantino influence. Banderos is cool, but then anybody would look the same with the balletic action scenes, and the camerawork and editing make more than a step up from the original.
Lacks the charm of El Mariachi as it comes off very slick, but entertaining anyway.
