Review of Desperado (1995) by Brad G — 07 Jan 2011
For my money, Robert Rodriguez has never been able to capture the action brilliance of Desperado. From the openings laying down of the myth (via an extraordinary Steve Buscemi storytelling session) to the climactic guitar case shoot 'em up, Desperado is the closest the 90s came to the wonderful gratuitous squibbing era of the 1980s.
Not to mention the smoking hot introduction of Salma Hayek. El Mariachi is impressive and fun, but its Desperado where all the pieces come together. VF.
