Review of Desierto (2015) by Dave M — 26 Jan 2017
It was the name "Cuaron" that tricked me into watching this, and my biggest takeaway was that he only got to make this movie because of the same thing.
It's not good. There's no real plot, the characters have no depth, which would be fine, but I think it's trying to pass itself off as a "message" film and it's just not. It's a thriller, but it's more straight brutality than tension. People die like in a video game, one right after another. And oddly, we're told the temperatures will reach 120 degrees but I instinctively know they're shooting it on a cooler day. Doesn't help that the main villain is running through a (supposedly) 120 degree desert for hours, drinking only straight liquor and doesn't just die.
Dumb movie.
