Review of Desi Boyz (2011) by Mayank F — 26 Nov 2011
A good debut by Rohit Dhawan, son of the master of comedy David Dhawan.
A light movie, keeps you engaged for the most part and doesn't really drag at any point. Unfortunately, the music doesn't live up to the promise, besides the title track, and so you wish the songs were only on a CD!!
As far as performances go, John Abraham has done a decent enough job, and he has the physique to do justice to the character. He seems to be finding a comfort zone in the light hearted roles, and maybe he ought to focus more on that. Akshay Kumar looks like a "papad pahelwan" in front of John and doesn't disappoint all of us who have come to expect him to ham and overact in all his roles.
Deepika and Chitrangada are really there for the glamour quotient, and they do justice to that. Chitrangada looks a bit too perfect at times, and thats a bit unnatural.
Sanjay Dutt has a breezy cameo and provides some funny moments.
My friend, Mohnish Bahl, also has a small cameo in this one, but then he is very busy with HIS NEW SERIAL , KUCH TO LOG KAHENGE, ON SONY TV MON-THURS NIGHTS, YOU HAD BETTER BE WATCHING IT!!!!!!!!!
All in all a very watchable movie, not sure why it deserved an A certificate from our censors.
I wish Rohit Dhawan all the best and I hope he carries the Dhawan tradition even further than his illustrious father.
