Review of Desert Flower (2009) by Maria U — 18 Jul 2011
Based on the life of african supermodel Waris Dirie who escapes from her tribal life in Somalia for a better life in London. The movie brings to our attention the brutal tradition of female genital mutilation, as Dirie was a victim of this ancient rite when she was three years old.
The actress portraying Dirie makes an excellent job: Her character evolves from the deepest ignorance, to a woman walking with her head high among the best models in the world, and openly talking about this horrible practice still being performed on millions of women.
