Review of Descent (2007) by Jerome K — 11 Nov 2011
This probably one of the more satisfying horror films I've seen in recent memory. One of things I hate in horror films is cliches like characters splitting up for no reason or doing something inexcusably stupid so as to move the plot forward.
Things like that can take away the suspense. Thankfully this film managed to dodge that pitfall. I'm surprised it took a year for this British film to reach the US because it is very well done. I love that all the actresses were virtually unknowns to me, so their performances felt all the more genuine.
This film about a group of girl friends exploring a cave definitely will scare claustrophobes and nyctophobes (those scared of the dark) alike. The plot and script also seemed like they actually put some thought into them.
The cinematography was also pretty memorable as well. I don't want to spoil too much since the thrill of these kind of movies is the unknown. If you're a fan of the genre, make sure to take the opportunity to watch this film.
