Review of Descent (2007) by Tyler M — 31 Mar 2012
I didn't really have my hopes up when I got this, and it took me a while to actually accept it as a "good" horror flick... I'm not usually interested or entertained by the films that have very little story that thrive on cheap scares and graphic imagery.
Argue all you want, but the story was about as minimalistic as you can get, while there was a little bit in the beginning once they got into the cave any kind of story arch just kind of collapsed unto itself.
And argue all you want, but if you played drinking games to the amount of cheap scares in this film, you'd be pretty wasted within the first 30 minutes.
Though once the initial slow start is done, it does become genuinely intense and the scares become less cheap, if not just as predictable.
Thinking it was going to be a 2 star movie at best, I can't explain why I feel so compelled to give it 4... A word of advice though... Watch it in the middle of the night with the lights out and the volume up.
