Review of Dersu Uzala (1961) by Gabriel G — 30 Aug 2008
This tearjerker depicts the true story of the friendship between a Russian explorer and his eccentric Nanai guide that took place around the turn of the century. The Siberian frontier and its takeover by civilization parallels that of the American frontier many decades before.
This is one of my least favorite Kurosawa films, but then again, I haven't seen a bad movie of his yet.
