Review of Derrida (2002) by Zeeshan M — 01 Apr 2008
Since the man involved gave it probably the closest thing to a stamp of approval he's ever going to give a representation of something else, so what more could you want? It's interesting, funny, and has Derrida in it.
Although, I definitely wouldn't reccomend it as a starting point for Derrida - the book from the "introducing philosophy" series is probably a better way to start. He's famous for communicating in circles (for example, he famously said that anyone who wants to define deconstruction is missing the point) and does so quite a bit in this movie.
After you figure out what he's saying, though, it makes a LOT of sense. The one thing I really didn't like was the voiceovers - they were kind of annoying. No one wants to be listening to a philosopher talk about his philosophy and then have that cut off by someone else reading one of his writings (necessarily) out of context : ) But awesome movie overall!
