Review of Dennis the Menace (1993) by Will M — 27 Mar 2013
Another Hughes-family offering, this 90s adaptation of the American icon boasts good performances from its two leads, and a playful yet moving score from Goldsmith, but is undone from lackluster slapstick that comes off as more mean-spirited than cartoony, a laughably weak attempt at character development for Wilson and Dennis that consists of only ONE and just ONE scene, and a wasted Lloyd as a one-note villain who only becomes relevant for all of ten minutes, and only there to create a deus-ex machina climax where, instead of learning a life lesson, Dennis creates more of the same shenanigans that caused him problems not minutes earlier, and get rewarded for it!
