Review of Demolition Man (1993) by Mary Ann F — 26 Jan 2012
Is "Demolition Man" a serious or even well done film? The answer is no, however, it is what it is and that isn't a terrible thing. The film starts off as a typical blowing stuff up (hence the title) kind of action film but after our two leads are frozen and aren't awoken from this prolonged hibernation until the year 2032.
Technology and the way of life are hand in hand and nothing is familiar to the newly awakened 20th century men. The society is a bland and seemingly peaceful environment but looks are deceiving as it is eventually discovered that the people living under the city are normal people struggling to survive on their own terms.
In the end we are left with a melding of the two societies and the inevitable war brewing has been resolved. The movie itself tries to be funny and is filled with one liners and sight gags mixed into the action and sometimes it works, others it doesn't.
The movie is one of those guilty pleasures (As is most 90s films with Stallone) that is a blast to watch but isn't necessarily done well or stands out more then being a typical action farce lead by Sylvester Stallone.
