Review of Demolition Man (1993) by Michael W — 21 Dec 2016
Demolition Man came up a lot recently with the Google self-driving car and a convo about Arnold as Governor and him as a president in this movie. This movie is fun campy 90's action film. Wesley has the blonde do that influences Rodman to do the same when he played for the Spurs and color variations later.
The movie touches on the nanny state and what should we sacrifice to be safe and boring in this country? Is our only selections either a cesspool of violence or an wimpy nanny state where everything is illegal.
This film hits upon those items that are still in debate today...no smoking in public places and taxes on fast food sound familiar? Bullock is great in this film. The comedy is a little dated now and not as funny as the first time, but still cute as she idolizes the violent John Spartan.
However, even he says it himself...violence is not romantic and to be glorified, but it is ugly. This movie is not all loud muscle and guns with no brain, but it also isn't a very introspective film.
However, it makes a campy try at touching on these items and what could be our future. Not idiocracy, but nannyocracy aka bland liberal socialism.
