Review of Demolition (2016) by Diego F — 12 Jun 2016
[Review on reviewers].
People just don't get the movie. It's an amazing combination of satire on how fkd up is our day-to-day life, and a genuine conviction of how it feels when you lose someone you needed so much but didn't appreciate them. Exactly because our day-to-day life is so insanely heartless, that we forget who we really are.
This combo just totally knocks you off: first you laugh about an investment banker who doesn't feel a thing despite losing a beautiful and loving wife, then when the insanity comes you realize that he actually cares, and is capable of caring, and when the grief comes, and he just tells you "There was love between me and Julia. I just didn't take care of it" you really feel him. But most importantly, you recognize yourself.
We all tend to ignore things around us, not appreciate them enough. We are dragged along the lines forgetting who we really are. Ok, this isn't new, but the way the movie presents is just plain genius. Easy-going, it entertains you all the way, until it suddenly catches you before you realize it's too late. Being serious only a couple of minutes, it will leave you stranded for the whole evening, or may be a week. Who knows.
