Review of Demolition (2016) by Tatsuhito K — 07 Oct 2016
This is one of the strangest films I've seen in the last few years. I love Jean-Marc Vallee as director and Jake Gyllenhaal is a compelling screen presence, but this film just doesn't know what it's trying to be.
It has its moments, but overall the story is confusing and doesn't hold it together. It felt so cold and empty all the way. The third act is probably my favorite act and I really liked the relationship between Gyllenhaal and Lewis's characters.
There is definitely a good movie hidden somewhere in "Demolition", but this ain't it.
