Review of Demolition (2016) by Mike C — 30 Jan 2017
Really wanted to like this but am giving it just an average rating. Gyllenhaal can be so hit and miss.
I like the idea of life being dismantled after a tragedy. I like the idea of a person going through loss but not really being sad. One of the greatest columns I ever read in a news magazine was about a woman who lost her husband and was happy about it because he was a piece of shit.
Not sure that's the case here. And I thought the trailers were a little misleading. Been a few weeks since I watched it so, frankly, my memories of it are a little sketchy. I guess I had hoped for something like Reign Over Me...a character that can't deal with the loss and remodels his life in an attempt to escape his past. I didn't get that from this movie. I wasn't real sure what to make of it.
