Before he started remaking SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT, Burt Reynolds turned out some pretty good performances in some pretty good films. Burt is part of an ensemble cast that includes Jon Voight, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox.
The film is based on a novel by American poet James Dickey (who appears in the film as a sheriff) and is directed by John Borman. A back-to-nature canoe trip becomes a nightmare for four friends.
