Review of Deliverance (1972) by Joshua B — 24 Jun 2010
I think this classic from John Boorman ("Exorcist II: The Heretic") has held up well since 1972. I love the cinematography of this film and the lack of special effects. The story is powerful. Plus the cast is top notch. This is arguably Burt Reynolds' ("Smokey and the Bandit", "The Longest Yard") and Jon Voight's ("National Treasure", "Catch-22") best roles. The movie also features Ned Beatty ("Superman", "Toy Story 3") and Ronny Cox ("Total Recall", "Beverly Hills Cop").
I did think the film dragged at parts. Considering the era that this film was made, I was pleased with the pacing.
Overall I really liked the film. Great acting and story. 4/5 stars. (6/24/10).
