Review of Deliver Us from Evil (2014) by Amilcar A — 05 Jul 2014
The devil has become one of the least scary characters in movies. He cannot compete with mass murderers, serial killers or clowns. The poor devil always relies on possessing one person, making their life hell but pretty much the rest of the world can ignore them.
This new version of demonic possession is anything but scary. In fact the movie could have been a decent police thriller if they had removed the demonic shit and the silly noises.
The plot is pretty preposterous and it really never quite adds up. We do know there is a possession but there is no real ulterior motif other then being really irritating.
Eric Bana seems to have lost his way a little bit. For a while he was the hottest shit in hollywood and now he;s in this garbage. What gives? Also, Jole McHale trying to pass as a badass...not working.
Lastly, if Olivia Munn won't disrobe why even have her in the film.
Totally mediocre and forgettable.
