Exorcism stories are usually drenched in religious hierarchy and ritual. This one does an interesting job of making possession feel more pedestrian, which in turn makes it feel even more dangerous. The scares and the pacing are fairly average, mostly due to the predictable police procedural frame.
Eric Bana and Edgar Ramirez are really terrific in their roles, and Joel McHale is surprisingly effective as a badass.
