Review of Deliver Us from Evil (2014) by Jevon D — 02 Aug 2014
If you are going to watch this to be scared not really the best movie to go see. Once again a director has taken the lazy way out by including more than a half dozen "jump scares" Several things were points of focus but never revisited, explained or developed.
Ralph gets cut on his arm but its not the real reason he keeps hearing and seeing things. Then bitten by a possessed woman on the same area that required stitches but that never develops into him being possessed.
Black guy randomly shows up in scene when he did not enter the residence with them lol. Ralph's daughter starts to hear the noises as well but never fully explain why she was effected. Possessed lady lands on car out of the blue one of the forced jump scares but she is left dead on scene and that was that.
The whole movie really beat to death the "distant cop" syndrome where his wife sees him never really being at home even when he's there cliche'. They go as far as to bring this up at least 5 times.
They also show in coming calls on his phones which the call picture is of his wife and daughter but of course he hits decline until the plot requires him to answer. The climax of the film was a complete let down exorcism and an occasional cut out to the black guy to make random black guy cliche' insert " oh hell no ! " .
....ugh one forced cliche' after another even the ending. I do not recommend this movie not even on Netflix or Redbox . Also there is no replay value because once again the scares were so forced you cannot watch this multiple times and be scared which should be a hallmark of any good movie.
No quotable lines or memorable performances here. Ah well.
