Review of Deliver Us from Evil (2014) by Samantha H — 29 Oct 2014
This film showed the most impressively staged exorcism ritual I have seen in any possession films so kudos to the cast and crew for that. The film adapts the memoir of Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana), an ex-NYPD cop who moonlighted as a demonologist.
In the movie, Sgt Sarchie joins forces with a Spanish priest named Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez) who is a demonologist and schooled in the rituals of exorcism. When Sgt Sarchie answers a domestic violence call at the Bronx and encounters an ex-military man having battered his wife, a chain reaction occurs, setting off a series of crimes and supernatural events that will test his faith and perhaps make a believer of him.
Loved that a part of the film was shot at the Bronx Zoo and good acting overall, intense scenes, and its the type of motion picture that leaves you feeling uneasy long after it finishes. Recommended!
