Review of Delicatessen (1991) by May W — 11 May 2009

I desperately wanted to like this movie: the post-apocalyptic (?) world was perfect, the mini-society of the apartment building plausible and some of the more absurd moments were juicy. As a movie it was great: it created a rich, vivid world of its own that captivated me with its thought-through details.

Unfortunately the movie was ridden with juvenile slapstick humor that soiled the experience for me. I can't give more than 3 stars to a comedy that didn't make me laugh once and made me feel embarrassed for the actors.
