Review of Delicatessen (1991) by Greg P — 19 Dec 2009
I love the mind of director Jean-Pierre Jeunet! Who would've thought a tale of cannibalism could be so...cute? When my brother first told me about this film and described it to me I thought, "What?! I don't want to see a movie about a butcher that chops people up to eat and sell them! Gross!" but this movie is SO much more than that! In fact, though that is the driving plot of this film, it really doesn't feel like that's actually what it's about.
To me, it was an incredibly quirky, original story of blossoming love between two very colorful characters. This film was FULL of originality and life! It was dripping with uniqueness and for that, I loved it.
The synchronization of everyone's daily tasks becoming a melodic tune was so fantastic! I really cannot think of anything about this film that I didn't like. Bizarre, colorful, unique and absurd!-What more could you ask for?
