Review of Déjà Vu (2006) by Geoff T — 21 Jan 2012
Ahh this is one of those movies that was so close to top of the line Denzel Washington filmography but just fell short in a few areas. I was super impressed with many aspects of the movie. Tony Scott tends to do some good work with topics and themes that may not be a good show for most people. I was wrong with that. Tony Scott takes an odd Sci-Fi idea of going back in time and really made it a B+, on the verg of A film.
First off let me say the actor selection was amazing. Of course Denzel is my favorite actor so I am a bit biased, but the rest of the actors I was not so sure about. So we have this powerhouse actor and a rather unknown cast and a topic with a bit of irregularity. So let's begin.
1. The plot.
The plot itself was fun, it was fresh, it was very emotional and most of all it was rather unique. Sure we have plenty of terror movies, murder movies, police movies, government movies, ect. but we don't have many movies that are able to combine them all together and form a smash hit.
2. The relationships between actors.
I love how intense, how emotionally involved, and how deep these relationships between characters go. We get so many movies these days where relationships barely scratch the surface but "Dà (C)jà Vu" makes sure to go deeper than just the surface. By the way, this movie got me hooked on Paula Patton. ;).
3. The action!!!
Well nobody can deny that this movie has some good action scenes and with that some real good emotional twists and crime scene/police work areas in it. I knew it would be good with Denzel at the helm, but I was pleased to see just how good it actually was.
With that I wasn't too upset with any one part of the movie. The ending kinda threw me off a bit, but that's mostly because I love those storybook endings. *Sigh* I'ma sucker for love.
But you want this to end I am sure.
Watch this movie, no doubt about it, no more waiting to get around to it.
4 stars out of 5.
