Review of Definitely, Maybe (2008) by Cecilia M — 09 Apr 2010
I'm generally no fan of the romantic comedy genre but this one was a delight as you couldn't tell for sure which one of his old flames Will (Ryan Reynolds) was going to end up with, if any. All too often the end result of a romantic comedy is clear from the get-go. Adorable Abigail Breslin (almost as perfect as in Little Miss Sunshine) is every bit as good as the adult actors.
Ryan Reynolds is a kind of an everyman, not too charismatic, but with impeccable comic timing, and of the actresses, both (Mrs Sacha Baron Cohen) Isla Fisher and especially Rachel Weisz deliver. The characters seem real and the similarities between Will's life and career and that of his one time idol Bill Clinton are both poignant and hilarious. A witty, charming comedy that avoids sentimentality sufficiently for even cynics to enjoy it.
