Review of Defending Your Life (1991) by Ben S — 27 Jun 2008

Every time I see this movie again I am surprised by how clever, bold, and downright delightful it is. I saw it when it came out in 1991--so maybe I glorify it--but I've been surprised by how continuously its influenced the way in which I life my life (for better and worse!) Also, it's hilarious.

If one of the (extremely rare) hallmarks of a great romantic comedy is that the couple makes a lot of sense together--but have fundamental, organic-to-the-story internal and/or external forces that legitimately threaten to keep them apart--then this is one of the best.

I love it.
