Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Matt A — 29 Dec 2016
Recreating the disaster of 2010,this is pretty much a film about survival, but what I liked about it is that there was none of the Hollywood clichés of the characters making plans to escape and then having something happen to stop them.
.. then having to come up with 2 or 3 different ways they can get out. Like what happened in The Finest Hours or Poseidon.. The only thing that was missing was the heart, I didn't really feel any connection with the crew as you don't really get to know them apart from Mark Whalberg's character and I also felt that Kate Hudson, who played his wife was very underused, although she did well with what she had to do.
The effects are fantastic and there is a real sense of fear when everything goes to hell.... Well worth a watch.
