Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Brad S — 15 Jan 2017
A solid movie. I loved the first 45 minutes, then lost interest in the next 45 (during the blowup and fire), and got re-interested during the ending. I think what was lacking was character development and a more interesting structure to the plot.
There just wasn't the emotion and depth that Sully, Captain Phillips, Lone Survivor or Zero Dark Thirty had. On the surface, this story just wasn't enough. But better writing and more creative direction might have lifted it up higher.
In the end, I feel like there was a missed opportunity here.
