Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Brady L — 17 Sep 2017
This movie is a harrowing recollection of one of the biggest man-made disasters in not only American history, but all of history. Putting big name actors/actresses in this film did seem like a poor choice when looking directly at the cast.
However, after watching this fantastic film, the castings were spot on and they portrayed these characters the way they needed to be portrayed. As with most, if not all, movies based on true events, knowledge of the event can create a sense of expectation for the film.
Going in to this movie, I did not know the complete story of the BP oil spill aside from the brief news clippings I had read during the disaster. Watching this film gave me a larger sense of what really happened in the Gulf of Mexico and who could possibly be seen as the villains of the tragedy.
The true star of this film is of course the oil rig itself as it has character, personality and is the reason for the whole movie. Definitely recommend this film for anyone who likes cinema.
