Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Leonard N — 04 Oct 2016
Deepwater Horizon.
I was left stunned in the cinema after seeing Deepwater Horizon. It's director Peter Berg's second Action/Adventure/Drama-film, based on real-life events, starring Mark Wahlberg (with the first one being Lone Survivor). And once again, it turned out to be a huge success.
I was at the edge of my seat for what felt like forever, but the intensity later on turned into a relief, but not the peaceful kind. The ending scenes were very powerful; the tragic event was over but it didn't take away from the sorrow of the lost life's. Actual footage from the event were shown in the last minutes of the film, and we also get to see photos of the people who didn't make it out of the oilrig. This made the story almost surrealistic, because you realize that what you just had seen has actually happened in real life.
Deepwater Horizon was an astonishing and exciting film, but it left you more grief-stricken than anything else. I would never have imagined that I'd be as moved as I was after the film. It was an excellent dramatization, and I would absolutely watch this again, despite knowing how everything ends!
