Deep Water is a very odd film. Very odd and very frustrating, it presents a premise thats similar to Gone Girl but doesn't carry a-lot of thrills or much of anything related to an erotic thriller like say Basic Instinct.
It's not necessarily a bad film, I can't really say that by any means. It's well acted but the screenplay is just so sloppy that it drops plot points almost as quickly as it introduces new ones. Affleck and Ana de Armas make the material work but Lyne's past-his-prime direction and (very) sloppy screenwriting make the film feel more like a missed opportunity than anything else.
For me, at least.
