Review of Deep Water (2022) by Jluis_001 — 19 Mar 2022
The result of an off-screen romance between its two leads is a lifeless thriller that is neither erotic nor exciting in any sense.
It only starts to show signs of life after the first 60 minutes and needless to say, by then I didn't care about anything else the story had to offer.
You can't possibly label your work as a thriller when the absence of suspense is crippling for the whole endeavour and most of the narrative is bogged down in irrelevant sequences.
Ben Affleck keeps the same face for the entire film with no sign of wanting to do anything else, while the provocative and defiant woman Ana de Armas tries to conjure in her performance basically at almost every turn feels too forced.
Ultra disappointing. Not for nothing was it shelved and forgotten.
