Review of Deep in My Heart (1954) by Michael T — 08 Jun 2017
The last of MGM's lavish composer biographies, this time the life of Sigmund Romberg; a notch above many of the others of its ilk, thanks mostly to the mugging of star Jose Ferrer, who sings and dances and brings some much-needed energy to the film; musical highlights include Ferrer and opera star Helen Traubel performing the "Leg of Mutton;" Cyd Charisse and James Mitchell in a passionate dance to "One Alone;" Ann Miller tap-dancing to "It;" and Gene Kelly and his brother Fred doing "I Love to Go Swimmin' with Women.
" Ferrer's then-wife, Rosemary Clooney, performs briefly with him to the song "Mr. & Mrs.".
