Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Jeremy W — 15 Dec 2009
Much better than Armageddon.
Firstly, they do a beautiful job in allowing the investigative reporter (Tia Leone) to go from thinking that she's on to a juicy, if prosaic, Washington scandal to her shock at realizing she's discovered what could very well be the end of civilization.
I really think Tia Leone did a great job in this movie. Yeah, there's considerable pathos in her final reconciliation with her father, but you know what? Sometimes there's considerable pathos in life.
As far as the actual disaster the film doesn't cheat. I can actually believe that such an event would really go down like this.
