Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Tatsuki A — 21 Dec 2010
Very much like it's adversary, Armageddon, (you know, the one with I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing) which was released at about the same time Deep Impact was. The funny thing is that the plot is almost the same. The characters were different and that's what made the difference, but the plot of having a comet blasting its way to earth and becoming the reason for the Earth's second natural mass destruction since the dinosaurs, were totally the same.
I remember watching this in the movie house when I was 8 or 9. and my family and I had dinner at this Chinese restaurant and I kept chanting (with my cousin, Nina.) "we're gonna watch deep impaaact, we're gonna watch deep impaaact!!" to the waiters, which was actually cute then. At least I thought so.
I believe this movie to be the first of the many Sci-Fi films that involves human extinction, mixed with a little drama for intense realizations just like other materials like, Armageddon, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, etc. Gosh, this movie theme is starting to bug me. Clichà (C) much?
Did you know? Deep Impact was the highest grossing film directed by a woman and held that record for a decade until Twilight claimed the record in 2008. People should stop comparing real movies from sappy ones like Twilight. (Don't be offended, i'm a twilight fan, but I think some movies deserve more recognition than Twilight.) :).
