Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Jon C — 10 Jan 2011
The title suggests the film is supposed to be deep and meaningful.
The end of the world comes falling down affecting a few certain individuals to come to terms with reality and make every second count for existence.
Sadly, it didn't leave me that much impressed.
It almost tries to be too much like Armageddon.
The characters aren't totally memorable, some supporting ones get left behind and are never touched upon again, plus Morgan Freeman as the President sounds like he's gearing up for his next campaign ad.
There were moments where I was tearing up b/c of the sentimentality.
The special effects are pretty damn good for an early 90's film, too.
It's just not as strong as I had hoped.
It felt like it just zipped by and was like 'yep thats it, dozens of people died but it's cool, the President's gonna bring our confidence back up with nice words'.
I found the ending pretty anti-climactic as well.
