Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Scott A — 27 Feb 2013
Okay the opening sucks, from the guy eating his pizza like a horse to the over the top car crash, but give it a chance after that...it gets far better.
It has a nice huge cast. Freeman is great as the President, but Leoni and her monotone acting was off.
I loved how they showed the heartbreak of people finding out who would get to live through the lottery. Seeing some of the older people know they would die was heartbreaking.
It has some really good effects, including the giant wave. And the score is great.
Now, I hope this isn't a spoiler, but be ready to cry through the whole last act of the movie. Many people die, and just when you think it can't get any more sad, you'll cry even harder. The two scenes that got me bad were the one astronaut meeting his kid for the first time and Sobieski's parents saying their goodbyes.
